Does any one know if you can get a 31x10.5r15 to fit on the spare rim, and still be able to stow it under the bed on a 2000 ranger 4x4?
I just put on some 31x10.5r15's BFG All terrains on my ranger and I want to get the spare to match that size, I'm just not sure if it will fit under the bed though...

This issue has bugged me a bit. On my 2002 Ranger, I have the off-road package with 16 inch rims but my spare is as stated above. There is an obvious diameter difference and I question if it is a good idea to run with a different size wheel (tire), especially in a 4WD mode and with my limited slip differential.
Also, Ford does not offer 16 inch steel rims for the 2002 Ranger. I'm trying to get a set to run snow tires (save the mags for the nicer weather). They only have 15 inch rims that fit at $82/ea. Apparently, the newer Rangers like mine use a different rim. I've checked all around and have found that Sears carries an aftermarket brand steel (chrome) wheel called the "Tail Gunner" <sheesh!> in 16 inch for $66.59/ea. I just may end up with them unless someone has some alternate inexpensive 16 inch rim recommendations.

running different tire sizes is a bad idea any time, when I asked the ford dealer why they do this on some rangers, they couldn't give me a answer of any kind.
I got under the truck and measured the spare tire bay, I'm confident that I can get a "used" 31 to fit in there. However a new one may be awful tight.
I plan on doing this tomorrow, I will keep everyone posted.
I got a matching wheel from the bone yard for $90 including shiping it 80 miles UPS. I picked up a spare tire mount for $45 thay slips into the reciver hitch when I need the bed space. I have a photo in my gallery. Works slick and I have a reciver on my trailer when I have to tow it.
>do you have pics with the 31's on i like to see how it looks
the Picture in my gallery is with the 235's on, this weekend I plan on going offroading/hunting and I'm going to try to get some pictures of the 31's on.
Make sure there is adequate clearance between the rubber on the tire and the exhaust pipe. Heat will cause rubber failure over time. Just keep an eye on it. Some sort of heat shield around the tire might be necessary. Less than 2" is not enough clearance without a shield.
