yeah but the stocker isnt so bad if your not running a supercharger or doing things with it your not supposed to!
When the first one broke (actual broken metal pieces rattling around in the pan), the truck had not been used for anything other than my wife's "car"...... and our truck has a stock 5.4 in it.
just got a quote for a Reman from FORD in the amount of $3700.00 (8hrs of labor to install).
Try giving these guys a call. Not sure how much the Monster Box is these days. Jasper is making the Monster Box for Factory Tech (Greg Evans) now. Same tranny just built by Jasper. I spoke with Greg and he told me that he could not keep up with the demand so that's where Jasper comes into the picture. He said that he keeps a close eye on the production and occassionally visits them to provide training and to make sure they meet his design specs.
I'm very impressed with mine. I've had it now for about 60,000+ miles and it gets abused quite a bit because of the supercharger and it still works great. I'd definitely recommend it for heavy duty applications.
Hum, I just checked out the website myself. Looks like they are building the tranny's themselves again. Maybe they never stopped but Jasper is still offering them as well. I wonder if there is a price difference. Like dkf mentioned, Factory Tech's website has it listed for $3,600 which isn't bad. Can't remember what I paid for mine from Jasper but I think it may have been more than that.
biz4two,
Depending on what you have to pay for labor to install it, even if it's a few hundred more than getting a factory reman, I think you'll be better off in the long run. If I were in your shoes.......wait a minute......I was in your shoes, I'd go with the Monster Box.
My problem here...is that I only planned on keeping my '03 another 2 or 3 years...and I only put about 7k miles per year. So...I have to think about keeping my costs down as much as possible.
I may go with Rhino...as I just received a quote from them...at $1753 with FREE shipping. Also the core is $500, but with FREE shipping back. They have an extended warranty of 3yrs/75,000 miles for an additional $200. The standard warranty is 12mths/12,000 miles.
Just make shure you get a new converter with the reman tranny. The Monster Box comes with a high performance converter. Make shure the cooler gets flushed or replaced.
If you only plan to keep your truck another couple years, I would go as cheap as possible while still getting a quality trans. There isn't much that gets to me more than vehicle troubles.
I had the monster box in a 7.3L for about 5 years. It handled a lot of towing and power i put through it. I had bought it through Dieselsite.com. Bob Rilley...Great Service!!!!...Plus he is a site sponsor here on FTE...
Well...I found a Repair shop that specializes in FORD Superduty trucks here locally. It is a PSD shop, but they know the 4R100 tranny like the back of there hand. The MasterTech has 24+ years working on FORD's...and has extensive knowledge on the 4R100 tranny.
So...I am having my SD towed to the shop tomorrow (YEAH...AAA)...and we'll see what happens. He doesn't believe the tranny is completely toasted, but won't know until he checks it out. Worst case...is a rebuild will cost me about $2400.00. And that includes upgraded parts from the OEM version.
I'll keep you all informed...as I just want my SD back on the road!
