does anyone have any link for tutorials on how to safely port and polish ur throttle body. most people i have talked to have said just use a dremal with sanding drum then use the polishing wheel. anyone got any input?
If you port and polish the throttlebody, The blade will not seal and it will want to idle very fast. You could probably polish it, but I don't think that it will make much of a difference in the way it runs. The plenum should be plastic. I don't think that you can port it.
since when were the plenums plastic? yeh i know i'm not gonna port where the Flap is i know about the sealing. but plenums have been aluminum for long time... i think imma just port it myself then have it sand plasted to polish it my friends got a sand blaster
Which plenum are you talking about? The intake plenum which is there the 8 runners are is plastic.
As far as polishing the TB, it will look nice inside, but it won't flow anymore air because of the restricted area around the blade area. It is a 68MM TB, and flows pretty good for the small cubic inches of our engines.
ported and polished throttle body this morning took me 3 hours plenum was a pain and could probably redoo it or get it sand blasted so its more smooth but its better then it was. and noticed a intake noise difference and throttle responce
I plan on porting the elbow out to 75mm for a new throttle body soon. Did you just dremel it? and do you have any tips for the process?
yeh get a grinding strone and just take ur time try to mostly just take the roughness off and smooth it out. but i went to walmart and found some 5/8" sanding drums that go on a drill that made the process much less time consuming and did better job. then after u are done porting it u can use a brass wheel brush or the polishing abrassive drums that dremel has. in the long run i spent more time taking it appart and putting to together then i did port and polishing.
just ported my MAF this mornning. had to use my extrator screw set to remove the tamper proof screws so i could take the sensors out so they werent damaged during modification. cut the center post out then used dremel with cutting wheel and then griding stone to cut off the edged smooth everything down. then took wire wheel brush on dremel and drill and polished it up nice and smooth. put everything back together turned truck on was a bit sluggish just cause wasnt use to reading different air flow. but i just was being to lazy to remove my batter cable i'll do it l8ter. but there is a noticable difference when u port the stock MAF. took me roughly 3 hours and saved me from buying a granatelli for 300 bucks
