I am trying to improve my gas mileage because its kinda bad right now, 12mpg, and I would like some help on cleaning certian parts. First, how should I clean the mass airflow sensor? It is an after market one. Next, how do I clean the part that the throttle body bolts too, this part attaches to the manifold, I believe its the EGR valvle it has a few vacuum lines going to it, can I remove the vacuum lines? I would like to take this part off the engine completely to make sure I get it completely cleen, plus I need to drill and tap the holes where the throttle body bolts to because they have been stripped. Anything else that I should clean while I'm at it. Thanks
Ok, I tried that forum and found info on cleaning the MAF, but it is not getting any attention on cleaning the egr valve, anyone have any recomendations on this? if it doesn't rain this weekend like it has been I'm going to attempt to remove this part and clean it. Thanks
carb or B-12 cleaner and a tooth brush is what i use. and B-12 u can use on MAF's and but its more recomended to use denatured alcohol so that no petrolium residue is left on the sensors
Thanks for the info, can I get the b-12 cleaner from an auto parts store? Also I read to clean the MAF with 02 cleaner, can I also get this at an auto parts store?
ssKable: How many miles do you have on your truck? I ended up replacing my IAC and it seemed to help a bit, because it wasn't closing fully before. I read that you should consider replacing it after 100k.
I have about 106000 miles on it, Is the IAC that thing that attaches to the throttle body that controlls the butterfly? Does it also have something to do with the cruise controll cus mine stopped working shortly after I installed a new throttlebody.
the thing that attatches to the throttle body is your throttle position sensor. if u didnt get one that came with he throttle body u need to get the one for it if not get the one that came stock recalibrated. your cruise is not working because the TPS is not reading correctly and cruise control will not work. the IAC is on the intake elbow or plenum the peice the throttle body attatches to. there are two 8mm bolts that hold it on take it off be careful not to damage the gasket. then just use some carb cleaner and spray in there and use and old tooth brush to scrub on it. then let it dry and bolt it back on and start ur engine up
Ok, so the piece that I am thinking is the egr valve sounds to be the plenum, this is the part that I am wanting to take off and clean, also I have to repair the bolt holes on it because they are stripped and the bolts dont stay in very well so I have the throttle body taped on to prevent an air leak, and as far as the TPS, where is that located, I have never heard of the throttle position sensor, what side of the intake is it on and what does it look like? Thanks
Ok, never mind on the TPS I did some research and I know what it is and it is the part that I thought was causing the cruize control not to work, now does anyone know where I can find one, prefferably one for my bbk 75mm throttle body, or the oem one will work, I spent about 2 hours searching the net for it and could not find it. Thanks
