I think it's only that way on start up though ... start with e brake on no lights ... put e brake down ... lights ... pull ebrake right back up still lights ... only on start does it keep the lights off. or maybe this is a gm thing

Well now on 04 and newer for sure GM's you have two options, just place the car in park and they shut off, or flip the auto lights off, as the auto lights and the DRL's are controlled by the same module. the off mode shuts off both the auto lights and the DRL's

I thought that even though the lights are on all the time, they are only at like medium power because the module is actually a resistor and when you turn the **** to turn on the lights it bypasses it and then give you a full beam. I'm not sure but I think that's how some of them work.
