on my 92 f150 4x4 302 / mazda 5 speed...the tranny is sooo stiff in the mornings (when its colder..)...1st is useless, and even 2nd is hard to get into...after awhile it gets easier...but still stiff....
truck doesnt grind gears when it shifts, and there appears to be no slippage in the clutch......
any ideas on what the cause for this is..bad synchros, tranny fluid??
I've have that tranny in my 2002 and had it in my 1989 truck. If you haven't changed the tranny fluid (ATF) I'd do it. It really needs changing every 30,000 miles. In my 2002 it was difficult to shift when it was cold outside with the factory Mercon. I changed to a synthetic blend Mercon and the shifting improved 100%. My 1989 truck had problems getting into 1st gear. But that was a continuing problem with the clutch slave cylinder.
I have to agree with that the trans oil needs to be change. It sounds like it is a thicker blend and lost it viscosity. Change the oil and put synthetics in. Costs more , but in colder temps. it really helps the shifting. Make sure you put in the right weight of oil.
