is it worth camming my 360

I have a 360 in my 72 f250. I plan putting a 4bl edelbrock carburetor and intake . Also a mild competition camshaft. Is it worth modifying?

And what do you want it to do?

1. A good 2.5" exh system with header an a pair of flow through mufflers.
2. A good Ignition system, 3. The carb jetted and dialed into your engine,
4. with a cam, 5. Some head work of gasket matching light slag port cleanup on the port runners for intake & exh. 6.New under cut ss valves & valve springs with HD retainer & locks. 7. A good 3 angle valve job done on the heads.

And the cam you choose will be a contender.

The cam is the heart of the engine...changing it will make a big difference with the parts you are going to add. Just don't forget the exhaust, you can't get the extra air in if you can't get it out.

Just don't go too crazy on the cam. 360's were low compression.

And you can get any cam you want for a FE, from stock flat tappet to a big thumping roller stick. So choose wisely.....

What cam do you think would be good. The truck is gonna be used for mudding and daily use. Oh. Lifted and using 44 boggers

IMO no.

The 360 has low compression and a sunken piston. You can't make a performance engine out of it. You can add the 4bbl and manifold and headers and you will notice a nice increase in power.

But imo, don't fool with the cam. If you are going to fool with it, convert it to a 390, 410 or 445.

The 351M suffers similar compression issues. The aftermarket cam for that engine with the stock compressin actually has a shorter duration, but higher lift than the stocker. For your 360 you would have to determine the specs for your cam, and find one with shorter duration and higher lift. That will also require new springs and probably new pushrods. While you're at it, valve seals. And maybe a valve job....

Gees for what you want it for I'd find a early 429/460 motor but your dreams of a some what mud truck with 44's.

Wow, I am assuming it's a 4wd now you'll need to throw in a Dana 60 front axle to help and low gears to flip those 44's around to not break axles.

What you want to do is not a cheap fun hobby and take thousands of bucks to do it right. Until you break something or blow the motor..

Racing is a rich mans hobby & a poor mans dream.

On a 360, your money will be better spent on just doing the exhaust, intake, and 4V carb. I received an Eddy 2106 cam kit in a trade for a pitman arm and decided against camming the '70 due to the smaller displacement, low compression, etc. The kit will likely find its way into my 73 4x4 with a 390.

Off roading and having fun, no. competition and hard core mud bogging, yes!

As long as you don't have a lot of power or stupid low gears, your axles will hold up fine.
