Ken, i have a 99 ranger with the 3.0, same problem with the check engine light, can you send me the pinpoint test that you did.

2000 3.0L with Check Engine Light - Code P0401

i have a 99 ranger and i had the check engine light on, ran a check on it and got the code p0401 checked the egr valve, and vaccum to it and it was showing 5-6 psi so the egr was not the problem, what looks like to be the DPFE. so i changed it out and the engine light has not gone on for 3 days. now the DPFE that i had on the truck was made out of aluminum and was slightly corroded, the new one is made of plastic and its a different design, it cost about $32 from ford. Hope this helps some of you.
