screw or scab?

I got a SCab flareside. My friend got a SCrew. The front doors on the SCab are a little longer. I think the visibility is better in the SCab, and I'm not sure that the leg room in the SCrew is that much more. I'm 6'2 and the back seat of the SCab is really close to the room in an Avalanche.

Yeah, the seat belt on the seat is my only complaint with my SCab. When you sit in the seat your shoulder covers the seatbelt and I am always having to have to reach behind my shoulder to get the belt. Other than that I love everything about the SCab. The cab on these trucks are much bigger than the previous edition. I had mine parked next to a 2001 SCab and it basically dwarfed the thing. I am also having trouble even parking this one compared to my earlier edition. Sucker takes up the the whole space.

I was afraid to post my preference for the regular cab till Scottie2hottie, thanks for the RC vote. I can't tell you how happy I am with the new regular cab. It has tons of space behind the seat for stuff and yet with the 6.5' bed its still only a bit better than 17' long so easily garaged in my shallow garage. We have a second car for hauling the family, which means I'm not in the family limo business with the truck. Well it works for me anyway.

If you ever think you'll tow a 5th-wheel trailer, it sounds like the scab may be the way to go. I'm sure it's addressed somewhere on this forum, and I believe that Ford recommends NOT to tow a 5th-wheel with a screw. What do I know, I don't have either (I'm just starting to look into buying one...). As for me, I have an 18-month old and can attest to the fact that a larger interior is very nice for all the stuff the little ones need close at hand. Seems that Ford should offer a 6.5' screw.

I like the Scab way better than the screw. One is I bought a truck, not an SUV with a bed. If I do have people in the back I could careless if they are comfortable because I wont be sitting back there. Also I'm not going to take a V8 more than a 30 mile trip with the way gas prices are. Plus with a 5.5' box you can't throw a mattress back there without the tailgate down and nothing worse than getting caught with your pants down (yeah I went there, another good reason why ford engineers are awesome for having 3" higher sides in the bed).
Those issues aside, I do like the seatbelt on the seat rather than the door pillar, (for some reason it feels better). Bed accessories seem to take up less bed (such as storage boxes). That and the overall look of the truck makes it look less like the bigger brother to the Sport trac.

This thread is 4 years old so everyone's probably already made up their minds by now. Way I see it... regular cab. Any more and might as well get the super duty. Its a cheaper upgrade on the SD, and if you really need lots of space. And you dont have to compromise on bed length either... not only can you get the 6 footer but the 8 footer in the crew. I think the '150 Screws look like overgrown Explorer Sport Tracs, perhaps they should call em Expedition Sport Tracs.
I just did some quick comparisons. Looking at base XL... the difference between scab and screw for the 150 is $3640 and for the 250 is $1360. Seems this price difference gets closer with the higher models though, I for one am not interested in spending on anything more than an XL nor do I need to make it fancy car-like either

I'm not concerned with gas until it hits $10.00 a gallon either, though I did find a job closer to home that saves about $300.00 a month. Didn't need to, when I thought about it, but if it hits 10 a gallon, I'll be glad I did.

if you had kids the 2000 isnt much compared to the hassle of having to open and close your door all the time to let them in or out... plus i think the Screw rides better then the Scab... i own both a lariet and xlt Screw (07s) and wont go back to Scabs. I owned a 05 Dodge Quad also . But notice it has been replaced by a F O R D. Mopars suck these days.
