i wonder do you think the screw's are a better deal in the end (f-150's), i mean u get more room of course but the interest is differ, but really how much does the payments differ, i mean u get the extra room in case u need it, even if you a single bachelor, u still have that ore room for a night out with people, i just think more people are interested in the screw's now ever since there introduction. would you rather buy a lariat screw or a lariat scab? they only big difference i believe is the towing performance, or how much u can tow, but isnt it like just 1000 lpbs or something?
I HAVE A SCREW XLT I BOUGHT IN AUGUST. WE(MY WIFE AND I) LOOKED AT THE SCAB AND SCREW.WITH TWO SMALL CHILDREN 4 & 6 AND HAVING OWNED A EXTENDED CAB BEFORE THERE WAS NO QUESTION AFTER GETTING INSIDE BOTH MODELS. I AM UNAWARE OF DIFFERENT RATES ON DIFFERENT MODELS BUT THAT CAN BE A FACTOR. I LOVE MY TRUCK BUT I AM NOT CRAZY ABOUT THE 5 1/2' BED. I DON'T HAUL MUCH BUT WHEN I DO I NEED MORE ROOM. THE BIGGEST COMPLAINT ABOUT THE EXTENDED CAB I HAD PREVIOUSLY WAS THAT IF YOU NEEDED TO GET INTO THE REAR DOOR WHEN IN A TYPICAL PARKING SPACE IT WAS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO HOLD THE FRONT DOOR OFF THE CAR BESIDE YOU AND STILL HAVE ROOM TO GET THE REAR DOOR OPEN.
THAT'S MY OPINION AND YOU KNOW WHAT THEY SAY ABOUT OPINIONS. REGUARDLESS WHAT MODEL YOU CHOOSE THERE WILL BE THINGS YOU WOULD LIKE TO HAVE DIFFERENTLY, SO GOOD LUCK IN DECIDING
HOPE THIS HELPS
ONE LAST THING, GET THE BED EXTENDER ESPECIALLY WITH THE SCREW BECAUSE YOU WILL FIND THAT YOU HAVE TO DROP THE TAILGATE ALMOST EVERYTIME YOU HAUL SOMETHING. IT'S ONLY $100 ON THE STICKER BUT $400+ FROM THE PARTS DEPT. I LEARNED THE HARD WAY
I went from a 97 SCAB to an 04 Screw and now that I have over 23,000 miles with my 04 I will never go back to a scab. While I occasionally haul stuff in the bed rather than a trailer, the significantly larger cab overides the smaller bed. Look at Dodge, they don't even offer a scab. It is either regular cab or quad cab.
I had my heart set on a supercab,I liked the looks of it better but after setting in the back seat of them I bought a supercrew XLT..tons of room..The only thing I don't like is the 5 1/2 ft bed..
1 - there seemed to be plenty of room for 4 grown adults when I was moving stuff...
2 - the bed is 6.5 feet....
3 - I think it looks better proportioned....
4 - if kids are in back, they can't open the doors without the front doors being open....
I personally went with a Screw. I did have a 2001 scab before this truck and liked it when I was driving but hated it when I sat in the back. It was to cramped. I am not a big guy either, 5'10, 170 lbs. I also went with a Screw because I just had a baby and plan to have this truck for a long time. I would prefer the extra room for all his cr@p. In general for me, more room in the cab is better. Sure, you have the trade off of a smaller bed, but I dont need it to be 6.5 feet. I think they look better too, IMO
I am with MattPattBerg, same reasons I chose the SCAB. Except no kids just me. IMO the SCREW looks too much cab not enough bed but the screw seems to be more balanced looking. But it is really a personnal choice. Just like color and model type.
I agree with Matt too. I have a SCAB and i love it. I dont have any kido's yet, just me and my girl. I took my truck on a 300 mile trip with 6 people... the only uncomfortable place was the middle section in the front seat. The 6.5" bed rocks but if you don't need it, a SCrew might be better... it sucks when you're in a tight parking space and people need to get in the back, you have to squeeze in with both doors open. That's the main and only reason I would get a SCrew instead of a SCab, but I hardly have more that 2 people in my truck thats why I got a SCAB and I love it.
I went with the SuperCab, too, and Matt's reasons are basically mine, as well.
When I go to jobsites, I throw my stuff in the back, and it is much easier to stand at the side of the truck with both doors wide open than to open another door opposite of where you are standing (unlike the "suicide" doors on the SuperCab).
As for room in the back, my co-worker is 6'-4 and raved about the room back there. I could care less about how much room is back there, because I will never be sitting back there. Just like my old girlfriend complained that the passenger seat in my old Thunderbird wasn't a powered seat. My explanation? I don't sit over there.
I prefer the longer bed for more cargo, and I, too, think it makes the truck more proportional.
If you plan on having people in the back seat a great deal, maybe the SuperCrew is for you.
Plus with the supercrew you're paying $2000 for three to four inches of cab space and a different hinge point on the rear doors. I like the idea of the 4 independent doors but I can't justify that much markup for 3 to 4 inches of room. Look at it the better way. The F150 supercab is the same size as a Dodge quadcab and the other day I parked next to a Chevy the same as my truck and I had at least a foot longer truck. We were parked with front wheels on a curb and my bed and cab were longer. We were both supercab 6.5 foot bed 2wd. I think their bed is 6 foot and cab is lacking.
Got the Screw for the kid's car seats. The kids still can't open the doors or windows because of the child locks. All depends on your lifestyle. I had a Scab before we had kids and it worked out fine for me. Now that I have a Screw..I will never go back...so long as I can afford it
