Has any one had problems finding a fuel filter for their 2000 4.0l rangers, The fuel filter that i'm used to seeing on many other rangers and many different other ford vehicles is not on this one (i.e. the one that looks like a sawed off soup can).
I've pulled the numbers on the one that's on now (factory), and ordered them twice, but when they show up, they are not the same.
yeah, the dealer can't get it right either, been there twice. Maybe i'm just dealing with idiots behind the counter.
I'm going to try a couple of auto parts stores, and the other ford dealer that's just down the road, hopefully i'll have better luck with them this go around, although i doubt it. I'll keep every one posted.
as far as the Fg number, i did have it at my desk but it seems to have dissapeared...I'll have to get it again.
When I first bought my 2000 the only place to buy a filter was the dealer and it was $45.00. A couple of months ago I bought the same fuel filter at http://www.carparts.com/ for $15.00. Motorcraft partnumber is FG-1004. http://www.carparts.com/ does not show a llisting for it under the 4.0 engine but if you bring up the 2.5 engine it will show it. They use the same fuel filter
I went and searched the local auto parts, and I found a Fram for 9.50, then I went back to the ford dealer, they told me that the reason I couldn't get the fg-1004 before, was because ford replaced it with fg-1071, hence that was the problem. Supposedly they didn't have the info, and couldn't order it the first time I went in.
Any way I ended up buying the Fg-1071 because I felt that it would probably be superior to the Fram...(part of it is cause I hate Fram too), any way it set me back $30, but when I compared it to my existing factory filter, it made me feel better that this new one is of metal construction vs plastic.....
