hey man i had a 93 ranger 4x4 with auto hubs also. when i would put it in 4 wheel drive it would make a loud clicking nosie any time it was in 4x4. i took off the hub and cleaned it and everything looked fine put it back on and same thing.finally i went by 4 wheel parts and they said it was my hubs. i went by ford to see how much they were and they wanted 680 for 2 same auto hubs. so i went back to 4 wheel parts and bout 2 warn manual locking hubs for 200. put them on and the 4x4 worked better than ever

I have a 1994 Ranger. I can tell you from experience, these "auto" hubs, in my opinion aren't intended for serious wheeling. Since I moved to Utah, virtually every other week-end is spent treking to the Canyon or elsewhere via back-roads.
My solution, I purchased Warn Manual Hubs and did the swap. Works great. Now on to the transfer case. I've had recurring problems with the pushbutton system. Wiring on BW motor had to be redone once, now I think the motor is bad.
