I know some of you have some of the the new f-150 problems, but if ford were to listen, what would you have them change? I own a 04 F-150 and drive a 01 c-1500 for work. So I can compare well, The chevy has had in my opinion a bad track record so far but there are small things I like better.
1 The high beam switch, you pull back and it clicks to high beams and returns to the same position. The ford is about an inch from where you normally have it giving an ackward position from what you are used to.
2 The gages on the chevy respond, at itle 40 psi and at full throttle 70psi on the oil pressure. The temp has numbers so you know the truck runs at 195 Degrees, the ford has c and h and normal. All the gages need numbers because a lot of us are smart enough to know where the truck is suppose to run at and wish to moniter them while towing or hauling things.
3 The transmission positions, Chevy 1,2,3,OD to physicaly shift to and a tow haul mode changing the shift points to higher RPM's.
4 On the Chevy HD they have a Temp guage( might on the SD's, Don't know) for the transmission. I think it would be handy for towing on a hot summer day.
I did not start ths thread to bash the ford because I love the truck and would never trade it. I'm just asking about little things you would like to see different if ford were to listen. I'm sure some things they do to be different from there competion. Let's see what you guys have to say!!

Minor complaint, but I know what you're saying.

I think you're kidding yourself if you think the gages in ANY vehicle are accurate to a certain number, and that's why Ford eliminated them. There's no sense in misleading you into thinking those are the real numbers, because there's always some pinhead engineer that will argue the "numbers" ("...oh no, that has to be at 60 lbs. oil pressure, not 48. My truck's defective and I want it REPLACED!!...")

Super-Dutys do have a tranny temp gauge.

IF they listen? Big "if," if you ask me. But the dealers are the last people they listen to, so I come at this from a different (and much more pessimistic) viewpoint. Ford treats their dealers like red-headed stepchildren, and it grows old after awhile.
As for what I would personally like to see them change, those darn door armrests. Is there some reason why Ford has to make them SOOOOOO hard? I can't lean my left elbow on ANY Ford door for any amount of time before it's killing me. Reverse sensing should be STANDARD on every 150; I can never see ANYTHING when I'm backing up. I'd like to see a full-retracting rear window like the Tundra, and the ultimate: a 6.5' box for the SuperCrew.
They need to get better seats. The seats in my new F150 Lariat are the worst I've ever sat in. They have absolutely no "body contour" and are as hard as a rock. Maybe it' s because I just traded in an Audi A6, but come on, GM can do it.
i have a fx4 supercab,flaireside.i love the truck.but...
turn signal arm could be inch longer...
center console storege could be 2 inch higher..
grill could be painted to body color or chrome...
and side moldings would be nice...
This is a good post. I enjoyed reading your comparison between the Chevy and Ford.
If I could change anything it would be the apparent quaility of the seats. I have the FX4 "leather-trimmed" sport seats. Compared to the seats in a friend's Suburban, the quality of the "leather" is inferior as is the support and overall comfort (IMO). All other aspects of my '04 are close to ideal. Oh, it needs more power too - somewhere around 500 hp / 500 ft. lbs. would be about right......
Manual window cranks need to go forward-you almost have to place your hand straight downwards and then the cranking interfers with the armrest. Also, and this is downright ridiculous...it takes (8) cranks to get the window up from the down position...most vehicles do this in (5) cranks at the most. The odometer readout on my STX needs heavier lines and bigger size for the numbers. Plastic gas refill door needs to be junked and a heavy duty lifetime metal door should be used. The third brake-light design also needs to be junked and a new type used that has absolutely no possibilities of leaking. There needs too be a complete grille section in the bottom area instead of two end sections, this might cost a couple of bucks more, but has better appearance & protection (do it right the 1st time). And then there are the serious mechanical problems that need to be fixed. I also firmly beleive that Ford should give their customers (2) sets of these mickey mouse keys that are so expensive and such a hassle to replace-don't they have any consideration.
Little things about it could be improved. But overall I love it. The main thing that bugs me is the AC climate control on the Lariat. When you turn it on the fan starts out at full blast. I hate it. I want it to start low and allow me to choose how high to have it blow. Normally I run it at 1, 2, or 3. Other than that, it works for me.
Two words....Manual transmissions....in ALL engine configs.
I love my truck as it is, but when I first went looking last year, I was kinda shocked to find out no manual trannies for '04. But, to me, the overall truck was not worth passing over because of that alone, so I made the grab anyhow.
Don't regret it at all, but it would have been awesome to have all this and "clutch stompin', gear-slappin' fun" too!
i turn on my ac by the fan button not the ac or auto button and it dosent come on full blast. but you gotta push extra buttons if you dont want ac but just the fan.
the lariat doesn't start blowing full blast until til it is totally cool, that is how it is on my truck, it goes full blast until your temperature you chose is picked
whjhich is how a thermostat works
Hello. This is my first reply to a thread in FTE. I have driven Chevys all my life, but finally bought a Ford after research and deciding it was definitely the best half ton on the market for the $. My only complaints are: The stance of the truck. I realize it is this way for towing, but the 03s were level and looked better in that respect. My other complaint and something that is hard to realize on a test drive is the comfort level. The seats are definetely hard and don't conform well as was mentioned above. My biggest problem is leg room. I like to stretch out when driving and even with power adjustable pedals all the way forward I still feel like I am chewing on my kneecaps if the seat is far enough forward to where the steering wheel is comfortable. I think the power pedals are more of an option for short people, but I have longer legs. It would have been nice if Ford would have gone the extra mile and added telescopic steering as an option with everything else they did to make it feel more like a luxury car. If I could solve this last issue this would definitely be the perfect truck!
1. Head Up Display
2. 37" Tires
3. Automatically Unlock Doors When I Approach The Truck
4. Supercharger
5. Lift The Truck 8 More Inches
6. Camera And Monitor Set Up For When I Reverse
7. Gps
8. Dead Foot Pedal
9. Installed Tuner So I Can Select Differant Performance Features As Towing/normal Driving And Adjust Tire Size
i'd by that i would also like to see a cup holder that i wasn't scared to put my drink in. i also don't really care for the deeper bed. i think it enhances the viberation problem plus it's hard to reach over into to get something. and it makes for that huge "billboard" of a tailgate.
can't they find some where else to keep the jack. it's nice that the rear seats flip up for storage except on the right side you can't use because the jacks in the way. but this is better than the super duty where it's cliped to the top of the radiator. who thought of this anyway?! i'll shut up now so no one thinks i don't like my truck.
