Optional painted door handles and leather wrapped steering wheel at least an option for the XLT. Go back to the old tilt wheel and a 40/60 bench seat. The current 40/20/40 is crap for seating 3 people up front, or at least make the center seat moveable. I agree with a better cup holder. I like having the outside temp/direction display overhead like the 97-03 trucks had. Better looking wheels would be nice. How about a truck that can make it's own payments.
I think everyone has hit on everything I've been thinking.
I have a 2001 Screw and a 4 week old 2004 F150 FX4, and the changes are very noticeable.
-Seats are hard
-All ***** are lighter/cheaper
-cupholder is fragile
-need storage behind the seats
-go back to old tilt steering or something better
-Put radio mute button back closer to driver
-All trucks should come with spray-in bedliner
-Need lower bumper grill insert
Put the tilt steering wheel lever back by the steering wheel with the spring in it. So when you pull the lever and adjust the steering wheel you just let go of it it pops back.
How about putting 15" wheels back on the trucks. There is such a wide selection of types and sizes of tires with 15" that aren't going to be available in my 17". How about making the standard axle ratio 3.73 for the 4.6 in a SCrew- it struggles with the load and that's empty. How about the five speed auto that Ford already has in the Aviator in the trucks- now you are talking about something to compare with the Titan. How about putting some storage back in the SCrew like the 02's had. The backseat setup is worthless. You pick up the seats in the back only to have to fight the brackets. Who's brilliant idea was that? Put the storage back behind the seats and make the seats fold down like the older trucks. How about leaving the grille a part of the frontend rather than part of the hood. How about offering the audiophile system as an option in the XLT. How about making the standard front seat passenger side a part of the seat rather than an empty box that gets in the way. The only difference between the captains chairs and standard seats is a seat or a box- neither of which move out of the way. How about getting the cupholder on the front door out of the way so you don't kick it every time you get in and out. Just my .05. I know- gripe, gripe, gripe!
So many good ideas have been posted, but to most of them I'd say there are equal amounts of people and probably many more who do not need all the extra options we list here such as the nicer seats, manual tranny etc. They build them to be good, but also so they are profitable and that means they need to cover as many buyers wants/needs as they can while still turning a profit and sell the most trucks they can. That being said...here's my short list:
- Leather wrapped steering on the XLT..simple, but I like it soo much better
- manual tranny, although I wouldn't buy since my wife drives my truck
- leveled stance, the raked look is okay but looks a little too 4x2'ish on a 4x4 (no offense to the 4x2 truckers here )
- 6ft bed on the S'crew
- Find a way to lighten these fat ladies up...these trucks are soooo heavy.
- nicer looking OEM wheels, the lariat wheels were the only ones I liked...and I had to buy XLT
- Cab running lights on the roof..the little orange jobbers..I think they look cool on the super dutys.
- louder exhaust, although most like it quiet
- couple more mpg in fuel econ
Wood inserts on the steering wheel.
real tilt wheel
radio seek on steering wheel (delete fan control, not needed with auto temp)
body color door handle buckets with chrome handles (like Escalade)
electrical plug in in back of bed
body molding
trip info button on steering wheel
full power seats
self dimming side mirrors, power folding
DVD coming from center console (like Malibu Maxx)
(soft rubber like) plastic on dashboard
I can live or adjust to everything on the 150 but would really like to have either elockers or air lockers as a factory option on both ends. Maybe a little taller tire like 33s or 35s would be a real nice finishing touch.
