Last night i went to top off the coolant in my friends 99 cougar and the hood release was off track. So i pulled the panel off where the hood release and the trunk button was to put it back on. Everything was fine after and i started the car briefly to make sure the low coolant light went off. Well this morning she called me at work and said that her car started then it started to shake and shut off, so she did it 2 more times and it just shook. She explained it like the feeling when a lawn mower runs out of gas. Ofcourse i feel bad and I'm going to take a look at it when i get off of work.
So here is the part i need help with, I remember seeing a sticker on the panel that i took of that said the fuel shut off switch was located near there. IS it possible that i bumped it and it stopped the fuel. If so How can i reset it and Any one know exactly where it is located.( I didnt remember seeing it,probably since it was dark out).
well any help would be great thanks

That switch is normally activated only during a severe collision or rollover, so I doubt you tripped it. I was thinking maybe you dislodged an electrical connector while you were in there - check everything while you're seeing if the switch needs to be reset (usually has a red button). Good luck!!!
well when i went to check it out it started right up and seemed fine. Then this morning she went to start it again and it chugged again and would'nt start. It has been around 35-45 F at night and she goes to start it around 345am so it is still pretty could outside. Any ideas of what the problem is would be great. Could it be water in the fuel?
A can of Heet wouldn't hurt anything, and a cheap fix if it works (probably not, 'cause water always goes to the bottom if there no matter when you try to start it). Is the Cougar parked outside? If so, I'm wondering if condensation from those cool dewy MD mornings is getting into an electrical connector under the hood.
If you somehow hit it with something hard, you may have tripped it. When I have had injectors cleaned, the mechanic at the dealer I go to would take the handle of a screwdriver and give the shutoff a rap with it. It would shut off. If you put the panel back on after starting it, that may have been when it was tripped.
Sure did thanks for the help. Had a connector that had some corrosion on it (was loose and got some water on it so you hit the nail on the head) so i just cleaned it up with a brush and she fired up fine. Once again thanks.
