Grill Guards Vs. Bull Bars?

Hey People,

This is my third week with my 04, SC Lariat, 6.5 bed and just love it. I sold my 02 F250 Crew V10 and never looked back. Gas mileage is a major improvement as well as monthly payments.

I have a question and since the search buttton is MIA at this time, I am wondering if there is a major difference between a grill guard and a bull bar? If so, which company makes the better model?

All responses is much appreciated as well as any photos.

Thanks

Tedmesiter

Grill guard, I think is also called a brush guard, covers your whole front end. Headlights etc. A bull bar is a bar on the bottom.

Here's a pic of a Grill Guard \ Brush Guard

Here's a pic of a bull bar

Hope this helps!

Helps me. Thanks MX2004. I prefer the bull bar. The front end of the 2004+ F-150 looks too good to cover it up. Unless of course you need to due to some real 4 wheeling.

Oh yeah and from what I've seen on other Ford's for brush guards I like Manik and Westin for the bull bars.

viewseeker, I agree.. but I think the brush guard looks "SCARIER" in a sedan's rear view mirror and has more protection. But I also like the bull bar, I still don't know which type to get. Hummm

Check out the Tal and Hadas bull bar. Had one on my Sport Trac and loved it.

Wish I would have had one yesterday, but not sure it would have helped much I took on a moose he ended up on the hood. $7000.00 of visible damage

I wrestled with the bull bar versus grille guard question awhile back. I liked both. In the end, I could easily get the grille guard done by my dealership at a great price. Plus, I did like the look of it better. As for protection, the grille guard obviously covers more and would therefore (in theory) protect more. Whether or not it'll ever matter for 'you' is unknown. And yes, the looks I get when I pull up behind some little car are great. They tend to move out of my just that much quicker.

Westin and Manik are both very good. WAAG is another one to consider. I ended up getting the black Manik.

Thumbs up

Need to actually see them installed on a truck somewhere, up close.
I did and bought the Westin Bull Bar for my 04 Lariat supercrew.
Of course, its all about personal taste, both look good.

Hey People, nice response. Since I dont live where the antelope or buffalo play, but closer to the city, I think I will go with a grill guard. Alittle more costly upfront, but well worth it in the long run. BTW, Gordo, your truck really sweet that front grille guard. I myself prefer the black finish to the chrome. My truck is two tone; green and tan. Thanks again for the response. And almost forgot, it looks like best darn parts online is quite competitive and shipping is free.

I recently bought a 97 F150 from an elderly gent who ran it through a fence, alondside some trees, the cenetrpunched an Oak Tree, ending that trip (he was OK). The grill guard definitely saved the truck. It had a front received hitch, so that extra 2" steel square tube is what really too the whallop. Iy snappedf that tube, bent it bask. then bashed in the bumper. grill and hood...but the AC condenser, radiator, all were intact, no frame damage of any kind...

That does look good Gordo. I'm considering excactly that or a RanchHand full replacement for mine. I really want to see some good pics of the RanchHand though. I've done a ton of them on Superdutys, And if they look that good, I'll lean to it. But I do like the front of these trucks the way they are. These decisions give me headaches.
