99 Ranger P0176 code - flex fuel

I have a 99 Ranger 3.0 and am getting the P0176 code. Points to the flex fuel sensor ciruit. Has anyone seen this error and its possible causes? Dont want to do any unecessarry work at the Dealer. Thanks.

I would start by checking the electrical connection to the FF sensor, located in the fuel line, under the truck, protected by a metal plate.
