302- 4.10 gears?

I have a 94' F-150 4x4 LWB, 4 in. lift and 33 in. Mud Terrains E40D transmission. Right now I have 3.55 gears and it does fine riding around town and stop and go, but on the interstate here in North Ga. those grades get to it worse than when I had the 31's. I hate having to drop it out of overdrive so often. Has anyone switched to 4.10's with a similarly set up truck? Is it worth the $ and time? Right now I get fairly decent mileage on the interstate- around 14 mpg. But I dont mind a small drop if performance is increased. Thanks for any input.

You actually might get better mileage on the highway with that swap, as you won't have to drop out of overdrive as much. You'll be much happier with the performance of 4.10's, that I know for sure. You probably won't be happy about the price - probably around $500 an axle to have a good shop do it.

I switched to 4.10's and never looked back after the swap, luckily my best friend has changed many rear ends before so the swap was a piece of cake, and the front was done by a veteran rear end mechanic that figured out my pinion depth and etc.. I ended still putting the front differential in myself though, but it was a great learning experience that I hope I never have to do again lol. In the process I replaced front u-joints that I probably would've never replaced if the gear change didn't happen so major plus. The 4.10's will put every bit of that 302 to the ground, the major key in changing to lower end gears...

I have a 92 F150 regular cab,short bed, 5.0, 5 speed,4x4 with 4.09 and 4.10LS and get 16-18MPG city and 20.2 MPG highway at speeds below 60 MPH. I get 17-18 between 65 and 70 MPG.

The 4.10s dont have to kill MPG if you are a careful driver. And the 5.0 wiill really pull --mine will pull from 15 MPH in overdrive when the truck is unloaded.

What sort of labor is involved in switching from 3.55s to 4.10s? Also, does the fact my rear end is limited slip make any difference?
