metallic knocking

metallic knocking
Hi,
i have a problem,
my truck with the 351w stands for a long time, about 1 year. All fluids were removed.
Now i fill up the oil, and try to run the Engine, but i hear a metallic knocking out of the oil pan. And the oil pressure is very low.
Well donīt tell me itīs the oil pump
Sometimes the oil pressure gauge is in the middle of "normal", whatever temperature the oil is.
Mainly the "knocking" sounds very badly, anyone an idea ?
Thanks Andy

hey, no i donīt prime, sorry for the next question but, what is this, i donīt know what you mean.
It sounds to me like a bearing from the camshaft or something else like this.
At the first 10 seconds of running the engine, thereīs no knocking.
And when i select the gear itīs quiet down, but when i drive the knocking is loud again.

What exactly is it doing knocking or a tapping? A cam bearing wont make noise however a lifter will make a tapping sound and will increase when you give it gas. A piston rod bearing will knock if it is wore enough and a piston wrist pin will knock but usually will go away when the engine warms up.
What your describing sounds to me like a rod bearing knock. Since you did'nt prime the engine before you started it you most likely spun a rod bearing.

Your description sounds like a valve lifter. It may go away as the engine warms up and oil flows better. Pull a valve cover and be sure there is sufficient flow.
Try pouring some oil down the push rod hole into the noisy lifter while the engine is running. It may just need a tiny bit to finish pumping up all the way.
