need help baaad!!!!

ive got a 1991 ranger xlt 4.0L 4wd. been having trouble getting out of 4wd so i read in the forums where it could be the shift motor. when i pulled the motor out i noticed 2 springs that keep tension on the brushes just fell out. now theres no way i can hold the spings\brushes in place in order to slide the motor back in.the motor is attached to the shift postion sensor. do you have to to remove it,pull the whole thing out in order to get the motor back together?if so are there any suprises when you take out the 3 bolts on the sensor. ive already dug myself into a hole dont want to go any deeper.

Can you use a couple of paper clips, wire, or string to hold the brushes that you can pull out later? I don't know what else you might find. I haven't R&R'd mine.

Thanks for using FTE!
