I'm sure it's just lack of knowledge and the rarity of good 428 cranks. By lack of knowledge I mean that alot of people dont understand that a 390 truck piston on a 428 crank makes a 410. It seems like it should be harder than that. The rarity of cranks is really a thing of the past now that Scat has a selection for the FE.
Scouder and rusty, i don't want to steal this thread but you posted Scat cranks. Question i have is it ok to run their cast crank vs a forged one on a 4.25" stroke street motor? Big dollar difference. This will be run hard but not a bracket or drag engine. Carl....o&o>..........
The jump goes from cast to billet. There is no company making a forged crank for FE. The cast cranks are good enough. Keith Craft has built some big inch FE engines using them. I used billet on my 511 because I wanted to use nitrous, and was shooting for 700+ sea level horsepower even without it. If I weren't, I would have saved the 2000 extra dollars and used cast.
Rusty, thanks again. I looking at building a 482", MR heads, F-427 intake. I would like to get 425 HP, 590-605 TQ ( magic 600 tq would be great) and not turn over 54 or 5,500 revs. In the past on the 410's i've built the compression rings were 5/64" wide, now everything is 1/16". On a long running street motor like i use what's the ring life vs the old 5/64" ring? With 5/64" i run hard at times and get over 250,000 mile plus ring life. Will open new thread as i have more engine questions, the Dynosims making more questions. Carl..o&o>..
