I have had a 302 in my truck stock, and I recently purchased a new starter for it. The truck also had a M5OD transmission. I have now removed that 302/M5OD and am putting in a stroked 351 with a ZF. The 351 uses a different flywheel than the 302, but I was wondering how many teeth are on that flywheel? I might return the starter I bought because I can get a hi-po ford racing one for about the same price. Therefore, I need to know how many teeth are on that flywheel so I get the right starter. Also, is that 302/M5OD starter able to be used on the 351/ZF? If it fits I might use that instead of a ford racing one. Any info is appriciated.
I believe the starters are interchangeable, the only difference between the flywheels is the imbalance weight. You can just overlay the 302/M5OD on the 351/ZF flywheel to confirm. (unless the trannies are still bolted to the engines, of course )

Sorry for junping into you thread MustangGT221 but I would like to know how to make shure the imbalance weight is at the right spot when the flywheel is bolted on the crank. Anybody????
It should only bolt one way. The holes look evenly spaced but if you seat it against the back of the crank you'll find you have to spin it to make them line up. It only goes on one way.

Your a good man! That was bugging me for a while. I am going to store the 88 460 untill I need it. I am going to use the 76 460 in my f250, just have to find a neutral balance flywheel, and a clutch and pressure plate to mate up with my Zf 5speed.
