K everyone, a local parts store is having a sale on winches made by superwinch, anyway they have their 8000lb model for only 460 dollars (canadian) and that includes a roller fairlead, 100ft of 5/8 cable all the wireing and mounting hardware. Now does this sound like its worth it? I am thinking about buying 2 and mounting them on a 2" reciever ( this way i can use it on multipe vechiles as well as our trailer) and then i would mount 2 recievers on the fount buymper (homemad of course) then do the same for ther rear. Doing it this way i would get aproximatlel 15000lbs (safly anyway) of pulling power for either the fron or rear or spllit it and have one on each end. So what do you guys think, is this a deal worth pursueing? or should i pay a some more and get a 12,000lb warn?
i speak from experience here.....don't waste your money on the cheapo winches! hold out for a warn or milemarker! superwinch makes pretty good stuff for utility uses lioke 4wheelers and trailer winches but i would not put money into one for pullin out trucks. i had a Ramsey that i broke 4 or 5 times in the course of 2 months! really sad. they heard from me a few times by phone, e-mail and i wrote a letter.
keep an eye out on ebay there are always good deals for warns and MM's
Didn't I see a thread on pirate not to long ago where a bunch of guys were having problems with the tmax and saying they were junk? I'm a Warn man when it comes to electrics. I'd rather not save some money and have a winch let me down when I need it the most.
K i think i'll wait on the winch and hold out for a 12,000lb warn, but i think that i'll still look into it for my tailer and such.
One thing that i've been wondering about are PTO winches, my dad has one on an old grain truck (the way the used to lift the boxes) that is in very good shape and was overhauled just before the truck blew the motor and tranny. Anyway my biggest questions about them are what would i use to power them, i know that the T-19 trannies are pto capable but the one that i have doesn't have the low 1st gear that i want, but what else could be used?

some trannies have pto ports and allow you to use just about anything you want.....they used 2wd trators to power saw mills and such. NP205's have a pto port as well as the D20's....not sure what others do but i know those 2 do. the adapters and gears however can get a lil pricey! keep your eyes peeled and watch ebay
Thanks cutts, i know all about the tractors and such as i live on a farm and there are 2 in the shop and one on the grain auger. I am going to have to my eyes open for some PTO gears for the 205 in my 81 F-250.
I do have some good news. Today me and my dad went up to the store that was selling these winches (they were some generic brand POS) to see if they were worth it and we found out that they didn't get them in yet so no luck there. Aftergoing to the store called Offroad Canada looking for taillights for my flareside we ask about some winches and find out they have a one year old (brushes are 90% there) for 650 bucks canadian, it had been gone through and cleaned up and everything was in very very good shape. So my dad ended up with it (he needs to go and pick it up cause they are shortening the cables). Also when in the back looking at some of the other stuff the had in the back i found out that the guy was redoing a 12000lb warn winch that seemed in very good shape and i think that i will go up and check it out when they finish with it and if i can get it for 500 maybe 600 bucks i will get it. Thanks for all the input.
