i need to figure out a way to BOLT on some recovery points for the front of my 89. I CANNOT find a front mount reciever hitch for my year and model. Are the Bronco and F150 frames the same? If at all possible i'd prefer to use a fron mount reciever hitch. I CAN find one for a bronco of the same year. If a reciever hitch is out of the question, what do ya'll recommend. Also as a recovery point in the rear, what Class reciver hitch do ya'll use. I'm thinking class 3 or 4 with a 5000 and 8000 lb limit respectivly.
If you havn't found one for an F-250, you probably won't. The frame IS different than a bronco or F-150, mostly just in that area. The F-250 uses leaf springs (I assume you have a 4wd) which require a slightly different frame for the bracketry. An option is to just get some hooks and bolt them on the frame, that way you have something to hook a strap or chain to.
A class 3 or higher will be fine for the rear. The 5k rating is for towing, but that hitch will take a stronger load on it. I've hooked up to trees and H2 hummers (my boss launched his into a snowbank) and yanked pretty hard, never broke anything. Took me 10-15 yanks on that H2 to get it out, pedal to the metal and go
kjg26,
If you are driving an F250 take a look at my gallery for recovery hook attachment. They are shown in the gallery for the fog lights. My truck is a '94 and had a front/rear sway bar. There is a crossmember to mount the front sway bar and the hooks are attached there with two bolts and a buttress type gusset 1/16" thick welded to the outer side of the hooks and crossmember for stability.

Reason: Addt'l info
Sorry, when you said "are the bronco and f-150 frames the same" I thought you meant the same as an F-250, not same as eachother. They should be the same, but I wonder why it's not listed for the F-150 if it would infact fit...but again i have seen stuff listed that isn't listed correctly and that would fit other models....
I would say call the company up and ask, or buy one and see if it fits, return it if it doesn't.
so the 89 bronco and the f150 have the same frame? i'm looking for a front mount reciever. the front portion of the frame is identical?
Keith
Yes, just different wheelbase lengths. The frame horns for both trucks are shaped the same.
I'd weld two strips of 1/4" plate on the underside of the frame near the bumper mounts, then drill through those plates and the frame (drill up) and bolt your tow hooks onto that for strength. Strips about 6-8" long ought to do it.
Otherwise you run the risk of tearing the hooks off the frame should the slack suddenly disappear during recovery, and your truck is yanked really hard.
My '96 Bronco had the same boxed front frame as my '94 F250 has. Used the same aftermarket steering stabilizer kit. You had to drill through the frame to install the anchor end at the frame as it wasn't a C-channel or open frame. I had thought, and I may be mistaken, that one of the Bronco's strong points was frame re-enforcement due to the large fiberglass cap over the rear. Read a review to that effect some time ago. As I had the tow package and stabilizer bar I guess you have an additional front cross member to anchor the front end of the sway bar.
ok so the front horns of my 89 f150 are identical to that of a 89 bronco. Ok so if i can find a bumper for the front of an 89 bronco, would i be able to use that bumper on my 89 f150. the body lines of the front are near identical, aren't they? Also, this may be a dumb question, but my frame, one again 89 f150, 4x4, long bed, is it a boxed frame or a C-channel?
A C-channel frame will have the inside open towards the engine and be flat on the outside. A boxed frame will look like a rectangular tube with no recess, you should have a c-channel frame. An example of the C-channel is the point in the frame where your fuel filter sits, in the C-channel.
so i want to weld a piece of metal on the INSIDE of the C-channel and drill two holes through both the frame and piece of metal and bolt tow hooks to it?
No, I have a friend who has an F150 without the sway bar in the front. I'll take a look under the front tomorrow and see if I can locate attachment points. If I can, I'll take a digital picture and add directions to it if that will help. That is if the rain is not too bad Monday. I'll get back with you.
