What is with the new Ford LT trannies? My new (new to me) 2002 F150 is the sloppiest shifting truck I've ever driven. If you never push the gas pedal more than a half inch, it shifts super smooth just like a granny car. But the second you press it, the tranny downshifts 2-3 gears, hesitates for a half second (while you wait for it to engage), then lunges forward. Why can't it just downshift normally and accellerate instead of slushing around? And how do I get my new $19K truck to shift like a truck? Is this a warranty/ dealership thing or is this 'normal' for new trucks?
I agree with LxMan1 that a couple of things need to be checked out first. A chip or a tuner can do wonders for sloppy shifting but I would check the tranny over first.
38K, bought it 10 days ago from a dealer. I have a 100 day warranty so I'll make sure they address it. Thanks for the quick replies. I was afraid it was just how the new ones acted and I was stuck without buying an aftermarket chip. I'd prefer to keep it stock as long as it runs and works like it's supposed to.
i've got a chip in mine and it hesistates but it all depends on the driving habbits it will adapt one thing u should try disconnect the battery for like 10 min or so then reconnect it. put the key in u will normally use. and drive it hard for like 5 min. and let it get use to how you drive. sounds to me like person who had it before u was a granny driver. and so the computer still thinks u wanna take it easy i guess u could say. try that.
I disconnected the battery for a half hour this morning. When I went out later the truck shifted much better than before. Not perfect, but much closer to the way a truck is supposed to shift. Thanks for the suggestions.
