I have a 97 ranger with 210000 miles and I let a friend barrow it and he drove it overheated for how long I dont know but now it blows steam
Could this be just a headgasket?

It "sounds" like it COULD be "just" a head-gasket - do you detect the odor of antifreeze/coolant? Is the drive/accessory (WP/ALT/etc.) belt still intact?
You have pretty high-mileage for a `97 - you must do a great deal of driving (?).
Considering that, and you still referring to the other guy as a "friend", you must be a very patient man! :-staun
