engine tapping noise

engine tapping noise

does anyone else have an engine that has a tapping sound.a service guy said the injectors make some noise but i have never seen or heard of injectors making noise.

All my fords have made that sound at least all FI ones

Is it a 5.4, if so it could be the V.C.T. (Variable Cam Tensioner). It basicly is a tensioner for the cam chain

When I brought my truck in for the dirve shaft lube, the service mgr told me that most of the complaints he gets are for the tapping noise. It's a normal noise for the 5.4 Triton.

Yeah there is some noise that is normal. But there is also a TSB for the cam gear.

My father owns a 98 F150 triton 4.6......It make a clicking/tapping racket.. We thought it may be bad gas, so he put some premium in it. Stopped the sound.

Im not mechanic but it works for him.
