roadster stepside truck
Ok so i posted to the stepsides and no reply so ill ask here maybe one of you or some of you may have some good ideas.The other day while cruzzing along minding my own business, one of those other makes rolled by going the other directions. Holly cow batman a roadster pickup this one being a earlies fifty's. Mine being an 81 ford sepside shortbox Has anyone cut the roof off one and cut the doors as well to make a custom roadster truck so they could put the top back on in inclement weather any ideas would be great thanks

AFAIK no big company made roadster pickups in the '50s, that was in the '30s, so it must have been done. I think dodge made some little pickup with a roadster top in the 80's, I don't remember if the top actually came off, but it had roadster doors. Anything could be done with enough time, money, and skill. would have to make some kind of header at the top of the windshield, and remove the frame from the doors. You would probably need to make longer side glass so it wouldn't look funny, or slant the rear of the roof forward a little might look slick. You could poke around at some junked convertibles to get an idea of how you could clamp the roof to the header at the front and rear. you might even want to practice cutting the roof on a junkyard cab before you cut the roof off of your truck and realize you should have done it differently.

I know that there are some companies that make some sort of kits that give you all the brackets and latches and such for such a project, if you pick upo an issue for truckin and you should be able to find something in there.
