f 350 sc psd went in for first service. I'm getting a vibration by my feet during hard accel and around 40 to 50 mph. remember reading posts somewhere about shimming center bearing? Anybody have this done, what exactly did they do? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
sorry i guess i was slacking, 4x4 long bed. Just picked it up from the dealer after 3 days and although they acknowledge there is a problem they have no cure. They claim to have searched ford database and have found nothing related to this problem. i ask if they checked the balance and pitch of driveshaft and center bearing and all he said was they could find nothing wrong. I wanted to talk to mech but he was gone for the day. Service rep also said they road tested a second time and didn't have a problem. I checked the mileage and they drove only 2 miles...... some road test
I was hoping for some info before I go back monday

I would try another service department and talk with the service manager. There is extensive documentation in the workshop manuals on diagnosis of vibration and analysis. There are chapters devoted to the subject. It is too long to post here. Let me know if you want me to send you a Word document. If you walk in with a chapter of their service document, they are likely to get highly agitated. I had a situation with my F250 SD where if you have the radio on (AM) and turn on the lights you get radio interference. I have the heated, lighted tow mirrors. There is a TSB on it. I printed out the TSB and took it in with me. They didn't fix it. I found the TSB wrinkled up laying on the seat. I had to go get the Service Manager. They finally fixed it. It was the marker lihts in the right mirror. They replaced it and it was the fix. But they didn't like me bringing in a service bulletin.

Do not be surprised if when you show them the TSB's or the manuals they come back and tell you that it doesn't apply to your vehicle. Just ran into that with my '05 and was told by the service manager that ford will no longer allow (pay) them to do in depth diagnosesis of warranty issues due to cost concerns. He said that if hotline does not have exact TSB for your year (which is most likely on an '05) they will not allow exploring and just state it is working as designed. Sucks huh? I have become friendly with the mgr so I am pretty confident he is not feeding me a line and it matches with what customer noservice has said to date. Oh well, off to the races
It could be the carrier bearing, but it is behind you....sounds more like the transfer case.....have you checked your hubs.....are they in the lock or auto position.....they need to be in the auto position if not.....put the truck in 4x4 drive a little(like around the block) then take it out of 4x4.....put the truck in reverse a drive it about 15-20', then take it for a test drive....maby this will fix your problem.....if not it didnt cost any thing but a few minutes....its worth a try....it is a little old school....but hey that is where I'm from....good luck. Tim
Good day Sinclair:
I've had the maximum allowable shim by ford installed in my 03 f350 6.0l ext, in order to repair a thumping vibration in the center console area, upon take-off in 1st gear. It fixed that problem, but floorboard vibes at your feet have been known to be caused by firing sequences travelling through exhaust and turbo, resonating through floor boards on some 03's and 04's. There is a fix that is either a hit or miss on these, being a pedestal bracket replacement. I don't think ford has a fix for any 05's just yet. My truck has had an unsuccessfull bracket replacement.
Once again I'm slacking iwith the info. During takeoff it is more like a "shudder". kind of like a bad clutch, not terrible but definetly there. I was thinking wheel hop also but today I loaded it down with about 1/2 ton and it was still there. Now I admit to being a newbie with deisels and for that matter auto trans but my f250 gasser with over 340K on it takes off smoother so I figure there has to be somthing wrong.

Well then Sinclair, IMO you should ask your dealer to check pinion angles before anything else is performed on your truck.
Had something like this happen on a 95 t-bird and then did some research, found out ford t-missions are good at letting you know when the oil and filter need to be replaced. Not sure on the whole thing anymore, but when was the last time you had your t-mission flushed, not changed but flushed. The old oil will tend to bind up the clucth packs and produce a shuddering at different speeds but mainly when you step on the gas or let off the gas. I know this sounds simple but hey sometimes it is simple.

Now that you mention shudder, in 1400 miles I have felt that twice, both times when cold, I backed out of my driveway and went from reverse into drive then went to take off and got shudder. I just figured it was an anomoly or that I didn't stop completely in reverse. Hmmm, something else to watch.
