Both my father and I own 97 explorers that when using the keyless enty remote to lock the truck, we get the alarm sounding in about 3mins every time. It eventually shuts its self off but can be annoying to other people. If we use the inside dork lock button on the door control panel it also makes the alarm go off for no reason.
If we lock the truck by pushing down the door locks buttons on the top of the window seals manually the alarms does not sound. If we lock the car by just using the remote then opening just the drivers door and pushing down the door lock we do not get the alarm.
We have to think other Explorers have had this problem as well if we both do as well.
Does anyone have a fix or a solution? We could really use a solution.
Open the remote (like you were going to replace the batter) and check the contacts on the buttons. Look for anything sticky. If the buttons are sticking it could be erroring or hitting the panic button. You also may want to replace the battery. I was having similar problems in my wifes 01 Jetta and we replaced the battery and it worked fine.
I want to note that the problem also happens when not using the remote but using the automatic inside door lock switch. I have to think there are others with similar problems since two 97's that have the very same troubles.
