I am looking for a rear roof air deflector that will help keep the dirt off the back window and out of rear hatch doors.Has anyone used one that works?
A bud of mine got the factory ford one and while it LOOKS great...
his does a LITTLE to help with that... but he's done a lot of research and most will only cause more wind drag and not really clean the rear window....
I think it's just the large "hole" in the air the X punches and the side air RUSHING in to fill in that air at the back is just going to pull in the rain and spray....
Hare in Texus... it don't rain nuff to be a bother
Thanks guys for the response. It's not so much the dirt on the window that bothers me, it's when I travel dirt roads the dirt gets trapped between the upper hatch window and the top of the the lower doors. I open and shut the window and doors and the dirt gets inside the truck, on my wifes clothes (not good!). Mud flaps might help. I was also thinking of weather strip on the top of the doors. Just thinking out loud.
Cory, are you saying that even with everything closed dirt still gets in from the hatch area?
I just checked the hatch and doors and I have a weather strip on all 3 (all the way around).
I never had an issue with dirt/dust getting inside the area behind the 3rd set with everythin closed and especially from the hatch & doors in back.
The top of the back doors (where they meet the bottom of the hatch window) does get dirty after a time, but nothing that windex and a rag couldn't clean.
How is your weather strips around the hatch and doors?
I know what he's talkin' about.....the dirt doesn't get inside, it just lays on top of the barn doors. ALWAYS the most dirty part of my truck. All the put to keep dirt off of there is that dumb little rubber flapper on the lift gate.
I have the factory deflector on mine. Yeah, it looks cool ... factory-made, prepainted to match and all ... but does nothing for the rear window. I also have the factory rear mudflaps. Now they do work.
I can see where lot's of dust WOULD settle on the tops of the doors....
and even to wash it off u have to open the liftgate....
Hmmm....
sounds like a project we need to pursue...
give me a bit to study it...
we don't want anything that will wear the paint or show so it looks very redneck....
but should keep the dust at the very back of the doors at least....
give me the weekend and I'll see what I can reckon
ok... found out they will be finished with the new house this week and close next... so I was sorta busy this weekend....
got a 16 foot PODS and loaded it bottom to TOP with boxes and non essentials... so I didn't do any "cipherin" on the X's back end....
woo - talk about MY back end dragging - I'm too old and outta shape for manual labor !!!!
The dirt/staining on top of the rear doors is a design issue in my opinion, but not one that has much impact, so I have just spent time cleaning the area as a routine..
I looked to see if I could put add'l weatherstripping between the bottom of the glass and the top of the doors, but it looks like you need to leave it open for drainage... so while you might stop dirt from getting in from the outside, you would be keeping water IN that drains from above....
Cant wait to see the ideas from those smarter than me..
