I ran in to a potential problem while fixing my temp cantrol. i had to unhook the passanger airbag on an off switch to remove the panel. with one problrm fixed i created another one. now the airbag comes up with a fault code loks like 27. everything is connected. is there something that i have to reset or could it be a major problem. i did start the truck with the connection unhooked. any help would be greatly appricated
You will have to unhook the battery or use the method spec'd in your repair manual to clear the codes. Supposedly they will clear themselves after a while...
Also, never mess with the air bags. They are small bombs that can maim or kill you if they go off at the wrong time.
Thanks for using FTE!

If I remember right thats the passengers side warning light not wotking, try doing a search I know I have replied about this code before. If you don't find anything and still have the problem bump this post back to the top and I'll look it up in my manual. I do not recommend wotking on air bag systems without all the proper precautions.
That may be it. Because the only thing I did was unhook the connector from the passanger side on/off switch. Could the switch have gone bad? Or could it just be that the fault light needs to be reset or something like that. Looks like I may be making a trip to the dealer monday if I can't figure it out before hand.
Thanks
Marc
tried the battery, left it unhooked for 10 min. still didn't work. i think it may be the passanger airbag light. well thanks for all the help, looks like its off to the shop on monday,

In the past, when I had tried to reset the computer by disconnecting the positive cable, it has not always worked....
Talking to those who were better informed than I, I was told that the best way to assure that the computer is reset is to disconnect the positive cable from the battery and place it on the negative terminal for 1-2 minutes. This discarges all potential in the system and resets the computer.
It made sense to me and this is how I have reset the computer on various vehicles ever sense (this has always worked for me).
You might want to give that a try just to make sure before going to the dealership...

I had a similar code one time. I had started the pickup, forgetting I needed to turn the airbag back on. Killed it quick, turned on switch with key, and restarted. Got error 24 or 27, don't remember right now.
To fix it I turned the airbag switch off. Turn on ignition and allow all the self test to cycle. Turn off ignition. Turn on airbag. Turn on ignition, allow to cycle. That fixed it. I'd try that before spending any money.
finally went to the dealer.....luckly it was covered under that extended warrenty that i had forgotten i had purchased...good thing too. it was the switch for the passanger side airbag it had gone bad and needed to be replaced. i would like to thank everyone for all their help.
ps. the whole system was deactivated while the fault was still present.

You'll find that the light bulb has burned out on the passenger side switch (where the key goes). I just had the same problem. If you take the switch apart you will see a small circuit board with a tiny bulb soldered into it. I went to Radio Shack and got a tiny 12-volt bulb and soldered it on. No problem since.
