looking for the code for a 4.10 rear end, both the one on the door pillar and on the axle. need to switch out my 3.08 (code 18) because i tow a largish boat. this is for a 93 f-150 4.9 6 with 2wd. according to haynes this is not too difficult a job, but this ratio seems to be hard to find.
Here are the ratio codes on the door sticker for F150:
18- 3.08 open
H8- 3.08 limited slip
17- 3.31 open
H7- 3.31 ltd slip
19- 3.55 open
H9- 3.55 ltd slip
The axle tag will simply have the ratio stamped in it like 3 55 for open diff and 3L55 for limited slip.
There was no factory 4.10 option for the 3800 lb Ford 8.8" rear axle used in F150's of those years that I am aware of. You will need to buy an aftermarket gearset from one of the gear suppliers like www.reiderracing.com or www.ring-pinion.com and have the gears installed in your axle or order the gears through a local axle/driveline shop like I did when I had 4.56's put in my F350. Some good aftermarket gear brands are Precision Gear www.precisiongear.com, Superior Gear, Richmond, Ford Racing and Motive.
