I have an '87 ranger. The blower motor (fan) seems to shut off occasionally. Then when I turn the wheel it seems to come back on. I don't know if it's my imagination about the wheel turning bringing the fan back or not. I thought it might be the switch but I've left the fan on and it still happens. I've checked the schematic and it says there is a ground but it didn't identify where it was (location). Has anyone had similar experecences. It's a 2.9 V6 w/o air.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 01-13-03 AT 02:29 PM (EST)]I got your email. While I don't think the wheel turning has anything to do with it, it is possible. There are two blower power wires in the wire harness on the steering column.
The first thing I'd do is make sure all the leaves n such are cleaned out. You can access it from from under the hood. Mine has AC so I don't know how much different yours is, but you remove the air cleaner housing and then the motor it self out to clean out the leaves. The reason this may be your problem is because the speed control (reostat) for the blower is in that area. On the reostat is a heat diode that shuts off the motor if things get too hot. If theres not much trash or cleaning doesn't fix it, your next step is the reostat it self. Your best bet is at a junk yard, I don't think the parts stores carry these. Last one I replaced cost $5 bucks at the junk yard. Ford used many different styles so you'll find your type in different makes n models.
