I'm in the middle of swapping the 16.5's on my '77 F250 for some 16's (since I have a used set of 235/85-15's that's a lot better than the old 31/10.50-16.5's on it). I'm finding the local wrecking yard or local Les Schwab tire center wants $25 for steel take-off wheels.
You might get half ton wheels a hair cheaper. I know small car (Subaru, Honda 13's) wheels are $10.
As it happens, my local Schwab has a set of used alloy wheels right now, for $34.95 a wheel. That would be gilding the lily on my old beater work truck, but thought I'd mention you sometimes run into these deals at a tire/wheel shop. If your truck is a decent looker, and you like want it to look sharp, you might stumble onto a deal.
I think I'm going to end up buying one take-off from the junkyard, three from Les Schwab, paying Schwab to transfer my set of used tires from Chevy rims and balance 'em. Then I'll worry about new tires next year. My local junkyard says they'll mount for free, if I but both used wheels and used tires from them. That's a dollar saver.
My father usually gets his extra sets from one of the larger flee markets. He says there is a guy that sells stock take off wheels and tires that he gets from tire stores that install custom wheels/tires for dealerships. The last set he got for his F150 were Dodge wheels with brand new OEM tires mounted and ballanced. A set of four cost him $250 and we put them on at the house.
Now that's a deal. Four brand new wheels and tires, because a guy bought a new rig and wanted to move up the the big shiny stuff. Sounds like a really nice package. I guess it would make sense to cultivate friends at the local tire/wheel shops.
Yeah, where my father lives, in LaGrange, GA, three of the local dealerships take some of their base trucks to one of the local tire stores and put wheel/tire packages on. They add stuff like pin stripes and bed liners and sell the base trucks with "custom" accessories as a local dealer add on package.
If you look around you can find all sorts of deals, be patient tho. I just bought 4 ea 15" steel wheels off a B-II for my ranger for $40 complete with trim rings and center caps. One of the trim rings has a ding in it tho.
