89 ford ranger hub question

Ok here you go, ever time I try to engange the 4x4 button on my "push button" 4x4 it justs banges and grinds "badly". I want to put manual hubs on it. But before I do that I want to know what is the required torque to seat the bearings before you put the cap on??? I know my Hubs didnt burn out!!! there just not engaging!

According to the haynes manual, 35ft/lbs, back off 1/4 turn, then 16ft/lbs on inside nut. And 150ft/lbs on the outside one. This is all from memory so somebody double check me.

I had the same problem on my 93 ford. I found out that the bearings in front were badly used, but no scaring. I changed the bearings, and everything was ok.
