I joined up on this site to look for anyone who has had a transmission blow up at around 55,000 miles. I have a 2001 Ranger XLT with the 4 door cab. It is 4x4 and an automatic transmission. I am wondering if anyone has had or heard of anyone having similar problems and what the best solution was for them. I am juggling between rebuilding the tranny and putting in a used one. Financially I need the truck to last me at least another year or 2. Does anyone out their have any feedback, input, advice? Thanks.
A rebuild will come with a warranty, and if the shop does it right the rebuild will have the latest refinements that should essentially bring the status to new. You could even have them install a transmission kit from Trans-Go which supposedly improves performance and durability.
