Dim Headlights

Howdy everyone. I have an interesting problem and was curious if anyone else has experienced this:

I noticed the lights on my '04 Screw (Lariat) are a little dim at night. Brights are great but the dims are pretty dim. I switched the switch over from "automatic" to "on" and they are much brighter on "on" then on "automatic". Has anyone else experienced this situation???

TIA,

Ken

The lights on my screw does the same thing. I thought that it was just my imagination so I never mentioned it.

My F150 Lariat screw is equipped with the DRL feature and the lights are made to be dim with this feature. Your owners manaul has this info in it.

Thanks for the response. If I understand the DRL system, it should switch from DRL to normal lights when it is dark enough to need them. I wonder if the sensor on mine is not making the switch....thus DRL at night.

DRL is not available in the USA on the 2004 F150. Only available in Canada.

does it have anything to do with your fog lights being off?

I have my lights on automatic setting(all the way left) and pull the **** out so the fogs are running with headlights. It is a lot brighter with the fogs and the running lights on at the same time.

It's brighter where you don't want it with fog lights on. Unless you're only going 10 mph, you will be looking much further ahead than the illuminated area of the fogs. I especially hate fog lights at highway speeds 'cause they make my night vision worse and just seem to "strain" the peepers. YMMV

Just for fun, I switched my headlight control from "auto" to "on" and there is a slight increase in brightness while "on". I wonder why this is?

Theisen,

That's my original question. I don't know if it's "just the way they are" or if it's a problem. Mine is quite a bit brighter on "on" then auto. My best guess is that it is a shorter "path" directly from the on switch to the headlights than through the photocell (darkness detector) and then back to the headlights when the switch is set to "auto." I really don't think there should be much, if any difference. Interesting
