What Causes OEM Paint Failures?
For you pros or otherwise knowlegeable folks, what causes some Ford paints to fail, producing those ever growing bald patches on the hoods, tops and trunks? Every time I wash my car those areas keep getting bigger. The paint is not peeling or bubbling, it just looks like it is wearing away. Of the 6 Ford cars we own, all 90's vintages, only one is doing this (Taurus). The oldest, a 1991 Aerostar, has paint that still looks factory fresh by comparison. Acid rain theory would seem reasonable if all the cars were exhibiting this but all of these are locally obtained, stored, driven and washed the same way. Only this one has failing paint. I see many other Fords of the same vintage with this problem. Anyone know what is going on?
They'd like you to think it's because of acid rain.....
doing their thing. Cheap and fast but some quality
problems creep in on some lines.
OEM's are continually fighting paint quality, cost and
environmental regulations. The quality of the
paint product reflects these competing issues.
