Hey guys, I have a 1987 BII 4x4 with the A4LD. It has the CV shaft in the rear and it's in bad shape. I also have a 1985 4x4 with the 5 speed. I'm wondering if the driveshafts will interchange? The reason I'm asking is the 85 has not been driven for about 3 years and the weeds are almost as tall is the truck..lol..so I'd rather not crawl under it unless I know there is a chance it will work. Thanks,
Jerry
it might..of course it might be longer or shorter the the other. check ebay for bronco II drve shafts..they are on there all the time. I picked up one a couple months ago for $5..couple new ujoints later and i was good to go.
If you're rough and tough on it at all, I would say get one made for it. I had this done back in April, and it's really nice, I paid $660 for it and only $45 of it was labor. But I also have a warranty that the guy that made it gave me, and it was black powdercoated and everything, he machined it himself, but thats what I recommend IMO.
I'm not sure if the '85 driveline will interchange or not. One thing I'm reasonably sure of is that, if it does, you'll need to get the yoke out of the transfer case at the same time.
If both have the GKN style driveshaft then it will work. There was 2 different driveshafts that were used on the BII, Spicer and GKN style, and throughout 85-90 the GKN was used, but the Spicer style was also used on 85-86. So if the 85 out in the field has the same look as the other, then they will fit. The Spicer style looks a little different from the other. This only applies to 4wd though, on the 2wd they're all the GKN style.
