I cant seem to search the forum, someone attach a thread that has the instructions for modifiying the air intake, especially the sensor that is inside the intake tube and inside the stock airbox. Im removing and attaching the NAPA 6637 filter. thanks
But seriously: Just remove the factory box, depending on the year of your truck you may or may not be able to remove it seperatly from the battery box. My '02 was seperate which made for an easier install. If they are together you may have to remove the whole thing then get a battery tray. Then when I just had the tube sitting there I got a piece of 4" exhaust and clamped it to the end of the intake tube. on the other end of the exhaust tubing i clamped on the air filter. I would cut that peice of exhaust tubing to fit your needs, as too much can force the intake tube back and put a little "kink" in it. The sensor I took and pulled it back towards the firewall a bit and slapped a zip-tie to it and never thought about it again I will try to find your link. No I won't.. search is down right now
I thought that I had lost some privliges, but it appears that the search mode is down.
i have an 01, and was just going to remove the box and clamp the Napa to the existing tube. read about it and saw a image of it here on this site...seemed pretty simple.
I did something similar, and also have my sensor zip tied. I chose the TYMAR open air intake system, from www.tymarperformance.com which works great.
My brother has the same thing on his '01 PSD duallie, and it sure brings that turbo alive! There again, he added (like I did) a 5" exhaust system as well.
I went with the TYMAR system on both of my PSD's and have been very happy with them. For the price and performance you cannot beat them. You can make your own system but by the time you get all the parts and put your time into it you would be money ahead to just buy the TYMAR. The mounts that Dale uses on his TYMAR system are very nice. On the 99-up trucks the mount is built right onto a new battery hold down tray so the whole stock air-box goes away..
Bobbysbullet,
Go to page #3 and look for the thread titled tymar. If you look at post # 6 from Kwikkordead you will see a picture of the Napa air filter installed. Don't know what year model kwik has, but it will give you an idea. I also know that he has posted more information on that filter, but not sure exactly where I read it. Hope this helps, but Kwikkordead would be your best contact.
