Vibration!!

I have a 2001 F-250 Supper Cab 4x4 with 96k, I have been having a vibration at around 70mph, I have been told that the vibration is due to a bent wheel, I have replaced the wheels, still have the vibration. I replaced the shocks, still have the vibration. I am now replacing the u-joints and center bearing, The problem I now have is I had to purchase the center bearing at the dealer (60$). Supplied in the box with the bearing is a large washer with a flange and a smaller one like a bushing or spacer where do these go??? I do not currently have any of these components on the current assembly.
What other options do I have to cure this vibration, wheel bearings??<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>

Johnski-

I have an 02 F250 Supercab 4X4 with 85K and I'm just starting to have the exact same problem at the same speed. Did you ever find out what was causing it? I'd sure like to know it would sure save me some time, Thanks...

Well I replaced the center bearing and u-joints it has helped a little?? but still have the problem. I have not received any other recommendations from anyone, I don't think it's the wheel bearings. I think it's the tires I am going tomorrow to have the tires balanced again and I am going to asked the tire store about a machine called a road force balancer. I heard that this is the top notch way to balance tires and rims, but not to many tire stores have that type of machine maybe due to cost?? Got try something.

In the beginning I had the truck checked at the dealer for the vibration they said it was a bent front rim. Tie rods check out OK.
I just got back from having the tires re balanced seems to have helped ,maybe the tires wear funny and need to be balanced at regular intervals??BFG all terrains t/a. I am going to drive for a couple of days if it returns then I am going to try the force balance.
Did you lift the truck and had to shim? My truck is stock.

I bet you were thrilled, how did you know the angles were screwed up? Did the dealer/factory fix it?

Johnski-
Many times if a vibration is coming from the front end you can feel it in the steering wheel. Swapping front and rear tires can help you figure it out to some extent. I have also noticed that even though a tire can be balanced it is not necessarily round. You can jack up one tire at a time and check that part yourself. Measure from the tire's outer surface that touches the road to a stationary object. (fender trim, ground. etc)

yes i was all teeth.
i repaired it my self
i got my info from this web site and i came across this link
first i had my two piece shaft balanced wich was off alot
helped viberation a little after that then i started checking my drive shaft angles and what you know my angles were out of phase
did some shimming to bring my drive shaft into phase and finally got it to quit

Well done!! That's the best info I've ever seen on driveshaft angles.

Yes indeed, very nice site! Does anyone know what a dealer charges to do this study? Anybody had it done?

have seen similar problems w/ SD, usually the CV joint is frozen behind the transfer case.
check it you need to pull it out to do it properly.

had a similar problem with mine only at lower speeds, not as bad at high speeds. check the u-joints on the rear drive shaft. mine were completely shot, changed them and the problem seems to have disappeared

I've been reading on dieselman's page, checking out some other stuff and I remembered reading about this problem in one of the TSBs

The following is quoted from dieselmann's bulletins page:

"99-03 Super Duty F-Series Two-Piece Driveshaft Shudder:
Some trucks may exhibit a vibration on moderate to heavy acceleration from a stop. This is usually due to too high of an angle through the center u-joint. The correct angle through the u-joint should be 0.5-3.0 degrees (compare front shaft angle to rear shaft). Check the engineering number of the center bearing bracket to ensure it is the correct application, and replace if necessary. If the bracket is correct, the shudder may be corrected by shimming the bearing down from the bracket using up to three 1/4" shims, part number E0TZ-4A209-A and two grade eight bolts long enough to expose three threads above the nut when tightened to 46 ft/lbs. Loctite is recommended. Broadcast Message 0518, 1475."

Maybe this may help?
