I DO own an '82 F250, so don't get too upset that I am having the problem with my '79 Camaro.
I've changed EVERYTHING, forget that.
The working u joint angles are both 1.5 degrees. But they are both in an upward direction, not the typical front angle down, rear angle up like a pickup. I did install a posi chunk around the year this started (not real sure of dates) and the vibra software site mentions a possibility of excess backlash.
I checked with the local GM dealer about if they use Vibration-Software and got blank looks. (Typical New Orleans).
ANyone got any info on the effect of both angles going up, I thought that is wierd. The Muncie tranny (4speed) is not original, I blew up the Saginaw with the positraction same year, long time ago.
I have a low frequency vibration on my 97 SRW CC 4WD, and just replaced all u-joints and carrier bearing trying to get rid of it. I can feel it between 45 and 55 mph during acceleration, but smooth as silk above or below those speeds. U-joints & carrier bearing didn't get rid of the vibration, so I'll be checking the phasing and alignment after reading this thread. Never would have thought of it otherwise. Good info! Thanks!
i had the same problem viberation at 70 the faster i went the louder it got
i had to drop my carrier bearing 1/4" and lift the transmission a 1/4 "
problem gone
the drive shaft angles were all messed up
oh and make sure drive shaft isnt out of balace
How does this angle get messed-up? And why does it start having problems after the truck has a few miles on it?
are the rear brakes dragging???? this caused mine and most other OBS'S to hop @ cetain speeds and worse on the decel!
the e-brake needs a spring added @ the connector by the 3 cables and the actuators inside the drums get rusted up!
makes sure to turn the drums if this is found. try applying the e-brake while moving @ 20-30mph and see if it happens.
