Do any of you know much about the Ranch Hand products? Saw one on ebay for a great price recently... ($319)
I like the look and heft of their grill guard, but disappointed in not having stainless steel available. My X is white with chrome bumbers and grill so wasnt sure about a black guard...
I saw the Ranch Hand bumpers/brushguards on a list of links at someone's personal 4X4 site, and I thought they looked like pretty well-built parts. About a week later, I saw one in person mounted on a 2002 Chevy, and I really liked it! The construction was high-quality, and the materials they use are too.
I started keeping an eye out on eBay myself, and I ended up buying a used one for under $150! It was halfway across the country, but even at another $150 for shipping, I still figure I got a sweet deal. It was built for another '02 Chevy, but I'm mounting it on my '77 F250. I'll add pics of both separately, and as soon as it's painted and mounted, I'll add new pics too.
If you're not crazy about the color of a used unit you find, (and you don't want black) maybe you could look at painting it to match your body color, or even having it powdercoated. Just a thought! Cameron
Here's the (used) Ranch Hand brushguard I picked up on eBay. The shipping cost doubled what I was laying out for it, but I'm still paying less than $300. Compared to the new/retail cost, I think I did OK. Now I've just got to shoot it & mount it up... Cameron
Hey Bill!
It was painted black originally, but it's been sprayed silver with something like that "Hammerkote" or "Hammerite" paint, which leaves a dimpled, "hammered" finish.
I was looking at having it Powdercoated with the same color I'm planning on doing the truck in next spring, but now I'm thinking I might just hit it with a coat of the black Hammerkote and think about the color for a bit.
A friend of mine had his bumper shot with black Line-X, and it worked really well! It looks surprisingly good, almost like a "factory" finished anti-chip rocker panel. You can also stand on the bumper without slipping off if you're doing a quick filter change, or, say, if you're trying to get to the winch without being buried to your hips in mud! Something to think about, anyway... Cameron
Ranch Hand and Monster Bumper front end replacements
I have a Ranch Hand grill guard on my 1/2 ton truck and I think the quality is good. Check out the Ranch Hand web site for details on their product. If I had a 3/4 ton truck, I would have had the Ranch Hand or Monster Bumper front end bumper replacement installed.
Another option is a bumper by Monster Bumper. They are a small shop in Fredericksburg, TX and they do nice work. Monster Bumper can make you a super heavy duty bumper if you require that schedule of steel. Check out the Monster Bumper web site for details and photos.
Food for thought: A lot of owners spray Line-X on their replacement bumpers and it looks great.
