You'll want to switch to synthetic engine oil so it will run ok when cold and make sure the glow plugs and relay are all in good working order. Proper coolant concentrations are a must so you don't freeze up. Other than that it's no different. Carry blankets behind the seat so you don't freeze to death if you are in a remote area and have a breakdown and must spend the night in the truck.

farm boy,

I have lived in Eastern Ontario, Canada all my life. I had a Chev diesel for 10 yrs prior to getting my f250. As long as you keep it plugged in and do like kwik said you are set. It has gotten to -30*C here and I have had no problems.

Candles are good for heat too, its amazing how much heat they will give off, substantially more however if you fall asleep and knock them over.......

Be sure to crack a window a little bit if you ever get caught in that kind of situation. You wouldn't want to asphyxiate yourself while trying to survive the night.

Well to follow up on the survival thing you may want to throw in some bottled water and a few snacks ( no kidding ) . And along with the candles take a coffee can to put them in when you burn them , it also gives you a place to keep them . Make sure you have good tires ( mud & snow ? ) , and carry a tow strap , shovel , windsield fluid , cellphone . Some guys even carry dry clothes and boots and gloves . I know it sounds like overkill , but you will be glad you have this stuff if you get stuck or break down and you have to set for any length of time and it's cold and snowing sideways ! Enjoy the winter !
