1994 Turbo Diesel vs. Non Turbo Diesel
I am looking at buying a F250 Diesel and I have found a 1994 Turbo Diesel and I was wondering how much difference is there between the turbo and the non turbos. Is there a big power difference? What about reliability differences? Also will both these motors in a 250 be able to tow 10,000 pounds if I need to every once in awhile?

oh yeah!! it will pull 10,000 lbs every once in a while. if you have aan auto tranny, you need to get a BIG tranny cooler with a fan, maybe 2 of them. the e40d's get really hot, if its standard then roll on. there is no big power difference in the 93-back 7.3's and the 94 turbo diesels. "they do make a 94 owerstroke that they called turbo diesel" but if it has an injectoin um its allright. i know a guy that took the turbos off the 94's and he says it gained power so i dunno.

I had a nice F-250 with 460 gas and traded for 1992 Diesel had 48,000 on it... and the power was the same when pulling in the mountains... problem came when I got above 5,000 ft the diesel smoked like I was setting the forrest on fire... and power was down... went to Banks and put on turbo and HEY, now we got the power and no high alt. smoke... I would never purchase a diesel without a turbo again..... I weight and tow 15,900 lbs when loaded.

The difference between a turbo and no turbo 7.3 is about 100 foot pounds of torque and 10 or so horse power.
Ford really messed the stock turbo up with a small exhaust pipe and a smashed down pipe. The turbo outlet housing is to small as well.
The stock turbo is an ATS turbo that was re-engineered by Ford. ATS can sell you everything you need to straighten it out so it works right.
If you get a three inch exhaust on it from the turbo back and a three inch turbo outlet flange the difference will be on the order of 40 HP and 150 pounds of torque more than the 7.3 non turbo motor.
