Hi, new to this forum. Just a quick question about dashboards. I have what I believe to be a 66 halfcab and the front of the dash is padded in blck vinyl. It doesn't look stock. Can anybody help me out with this? I'm about to start a full restoration and I'm sure to have plenty of questions to come. Here's another one: Where can I find the VIN #?? Thx. in advance.
If the dash is straight all the way across, it's the original '66. If it has a hump on the passenger side its a '68-'77. Your vin is located on the drivers kick panel behind the parking brake.
No clue, Every '66 I've ever looked at, or talked to someone who has or seen a '66 has had them there. If its newer you may find it on the glove box door, otherwise your stuck with the number on the frame. I have never found the one on the frame, but it doesn't meen its not there. Are their two holes on the kick panel about 4-5" from the floor about 3 1/2" apart, maybe the data plate was removed. If not the kick panel may have been replaced all together. I found my data plate under several coats of paint.
I believe that the vin plate was moved mid year 66 to the glovebox door.
The VIN stamp in the frame is usually on the passenger frame rail behind the front shock mount. Most of the time it is on the top of the rail, but I have found a few stamped into the side.
I didnt see any holes in the kick plate. Maybe as you suggested the panel has been replaced. It isnt in the glove box either. I guess my only hope is the frame. It is going to take me a while for that one, the frame is covered in thick thick paint. It is almost impossible to chip ,it looks and feels like plastic paint. Definately not stock. Thanks again for your guys help. Dave.
