I just installed a Predator on my 04 F250 PSD for the first time yesterday. The instructions advise approximately six cold starts before the truck should train itself to the 65 hp economy performance mode. Have now completed this regimen and truck runs superb and now shifts smoothly. My question is; if I change to the lower hp towing mode, will I have to put the truck through the six cold start process again for it to re-learn the new Predator program?
Any time you reflash it takes a few cold starts. I usually warm my truck up before I reflash and I only get a couple of hard shifts the first day. I run the 100 setting most of the time and you should watch WOT after a reflash.
1. Warm the engine and transmission to operating temperature.
2. Perform three series of upshifts at light, medium and heavy throttle (while driving with trans in D).
3. Perform three sets of gear engagements (N-R, N-D, D-R, R-D) with the brake pedal firmly depressed and waiting three seconds between each engagement with vehicle stopped.
Peform these steps once in normal mode and once in tow/haul.
