What headers for 292 Y-block?

I really want to remove my stock manifolds and that awful crossover pipe and replace them with headers. I know all the arguements for headers, but I'd still like to make the switch.
Where can I get some? I don't know how interchangeable Y-blocks are with other Ford engines. Will the headers be "special order", or is it something I can pick up at Pep Boys? I don't want anything fancy, just a couple of headers so I can install true dual exhaust. Maybe some "huggers".

If anyone out there has a pair or tells me where to get some cheap ones, I'll send you the original manifolds and crossover pipe that I remove!

How can you pass up a deal like that?!?

Suggestions?

TC

You are not going to find them at pep boys. I bought mine from
reds-headers their are a few companys making them. Getting rid of that power robbing cross over pipe will make big differance. Type in Y block headers you will find them.

OK here is a news flash! I was told by some "GOOD OLE BOYS" that if you take SMALL BLOCK CHE** headers and cut the flange between the center two ports and spread them a half inch they will bolt up to a Y.
When I find a set for cheap I'm gonna try it!

There are stock manifolds from the late 50s Thunderbird with the 312 that will fit on the 292 and go straight back instead of that stupid cross over pipe it might be a cheaper option

Thunderbirs exhaust will run into the steering box. 350 headers fit a Y-block? Got acouple of blocks kicking around and a couple of different 350 headers from race cars in the weeds. Gonna do some checking.

Good stuff, please keep us posted.
I`m of same mind in getting rid of the cross over pipe on a 56 F350 I just bought.

You could find an Original set of FoMoCo Rams Horn manifolds, that'd work.

That would certainly be the best option, but while you are looking or a pair of pickup style Ram Horns. (lots of grain trucks but won't fit). Might as well look for other rare antiquities.

OK... I just need a brain check here. My first car was a 56 Ford with a 272. I thought (and maybe I'm just delusional) that we blocked the drivers side crossover plate and turned the passenger side manifold upside down so you could run dual exhaust.

Am I even remotely close to anything that makes sense ? It was many years ago.

I thought only trucks had the cross over pipe, cars had the normal exhausts.
