c6 or manual

I've seen posts here and in the Fe forum saying that the C6 is a huge power robber, as in up to 25%. Is this so and if it is which manual trans would be better. I know I would have to do some conversion work but in the long run I should put a higher stall converter in and a shift kit if I keep the C6. With my cam having a power band starting at 2000 I'm just wondering if the manual would make me happier.

Automatics always suck up some power. The C6 being the big fella that it is, takes some power to turn. Ain't no big thing.....

Is this for your 79 4x4 with a built 400?

Depending you your gears and intentions, I'd probably stick with the C6.

I like the GearVendor OD idea, pricey as it is. That way you can gear to what you want, and have a 6 speed tranny, and cruise it a little easier.

E4od's and others can work, but automatics are all going to suck up power.

As far as a manual tranny, not sure if a ZF will fit behind a 400. Better minds will probably chime in on that.

T-Klair, the tranny you want is the Clark 5spd. You have heard correctly, the C6 is a sponge when it comes to power. The Clark, when filled with synthetic oil, will turn at least as easily as the Np435 that some of our trucks come with from the factory. And the gear ratios in the Clark are better. Is this a 2wd or a 4wd truck ? Need help finding a Clark 280 series ? DF, @ his Dad's
